Social Security Disability in Alabama:  Lawyers, Apply, Denial Rates, and Addresses

Here you will find information on Social Security Disability and SSI in Alabama.  I will provide information unique to this state and general information on SSDI and SSI as well.

The contents of this page will include:  How to Apply for both SSDI and SSI.  How to find a lawyer for your AL disability case.  How long it takes in this state at the hearing level.  I also provide some statistics on denial rates in AL.  You should read the rest of this site to get a good understanding of the process and what you have to prove to win your case.

How to Apply and Denial Rates in AL

Applying for benefits is easy but does require a lot of paper work.  If you are applying for Social Security Disability you have several options.  You can call 1-800-772-1213 and make an appointment at your local SSA office.  You can also apply on-line from the SSA website.  You can also get a lawyer to help you with your application and he or she will submit it for you.  If you are applying for SSI you should make an appointment at your local Office.  If you want to know what information you will need to apply for ssdi or ssi see my page on the subject.

Most people want to know what their chances are of winning.  This is a difficult question to answer because every case is so different but I will provide the percentage of cases that were denied at application and reconsideration for the state of AL for the year 2006.  The denial rate at the initial level was 71.8% and at reconsideration it was 73.2%.  This can be discouraging but usually your chance of success is improved at the hearing level.  If you want some tips on how to win your claim for Social Security Disability see my page that covers this.

ODAR Address, Location of SSA Local Offices, and Processing Time at Hearing Level

In this section you will find the address of the AL ODAR offices.  This is were the hearings are held by Administrative Law Judges.  I have also listed the local SSA offices that send thier cases to that particular office for hearings.  Below each ODAR you will also find the average time in days it takes for a claim to be processed at that level.
